Classes for Kindergarten through High School

Upper Elementary
This is an introductory level studio art course, for students with all artistic ability levels and skills. Students will explore various materials, techniques, concepts, and processes to gain an understanding of visual arts. This hands on class is project based with fun in mind, and challenges students to further develop their creative muscle and motor skills. We strive to pique curiosity and encourage eager learning. This will nourish such skills as taking and giving positive criticism, taking calculated risks, creative problem solving, and critical thinking.
Areas Explored
The Elements of Art: Line, Shape, Form, Space, Texture, Value, Color
The Principles of Design: Balance, Size, Contrast, Pattern, Movement and Rhythm, Emphasis, and Unity
Drawing: How to effectively use pencils & rulers to create depth, texture, & value.
Painting: color theory by use of color wheel and color families, techniques, tempera, acrylic watercolor, mixed media
Practical Skills: sense of proportions, hand-eye coordination, critique and analysis, problem solving
Sculpting: clay, wire, paper mache, recycled materials
Tuesdays OR Thursdays 1:30-2:30 In-Person Only
Middle School and High School
These are introductory level studio art courses, for students with all artistic ability levels and skills. Students will explore various materials, techniques, concepts, and processes to gain an understanding of visual arts. Learning is hands on project based, and designed to challenge students to further develop their creative muscle. The art assignments are designed to nourish such skills as taking calculated risks, creative problem solving, teamwork, and critical thinking, while developing the student’s individual style. Middle school and high school projects vary throughout most of the year; appealing to the interest and dynamics of each group.
Areas Explored
The Elements of Art: Line, Shape, Form, Space, Texture, Value, Color
The Principles of Design: Balance, Size, Contrast, Pattern, Movement and Rhythm, Emphasis, and Unity
Drawing: linear drawing, value shading and shading techniques, grid drawing, stylizing, linear perspective, observational drawing, color and value blending
Painting: color mixing and choosing, techniques, tempera painting, mixed media, watercolor techniques
Practical Skills: sense of proportions, hand-eye coordination, critique and analysis, problem solving
Sculpting: clay, wire, paper mache, recycled materials
All Classes are In-person ONLY
Middle School Tuesdays Group A* 9:05-10:05 OR Group B* 10:10-11:10
Group C for students who only attend on Thursday and would like Middle School art 11:15-12:15
High School Thursdays 9:30-11:00
*Groups will be established by Jackie and Adele and run opposite MS math
Materials Required for Upper Elementary, Middle, and High School
Beyond material fee, these supplies are required and will remain at VA for the school year. If you choose not to purchase supplies they can be provided to the student for a one time fee of $50. Please correspond with Jackie directly about this.

Upper Elementary Art is a stand alone class with a monthly program fee of $50
Middle school and High school Art classes are offered as part of our complete High school and Middle school program OR as stand alone classes with a monthly cost of $65 for High school and $50 for Middle school.
Material Fees will be $110 for the year per student.
If you choose not to purchase the required basic art supplies they can be provided to the student for a one time fee of $50. Please correspond with Jackie directly about this.
