Middle and High School Math

Taught by Adele Miller

Class Description

Teaching math to a homeschooling group of middle and high school aged students is a balancing act of recognizing the skills and knowledge that each individual comes to the table with AND mapping a plan for them to move forward mastering concepts and gaining skills that can be categorized as a course of basic arithmetic to  Pre-Algebra  to Pre-Calculus. This is no small feat and yet it is so important that any pieces that have been missed are filled in and yet the movement is always forward. This year, prior to the start of class, new students will be asked to take a placement test, and taking into account any former math instruction, will be assigned a breakout group based on level. Using both level appropriate text books and online learning tools, students will work independently as well as cooperatively to understand math concepts and how they apply to the real world. Textbook, as determined by level, will be provided.

Grading Scale for High School ONLY: Test and Projects will be 60 % of the grade; homework will be 30%; Class participation will be 10%

At the end of the year, a summary of the class as well as a personalized note and a final grade will be written up for each student.
