Exploratory
Taught by Danielle McDonald Bourbeau
Class Description
This year we will explore and practice the tools, tips, and strategies necessary to help us navigate the challenging situations we encounter in school, work, and life. We will learn about communication skills, both verbal & non-verbal, how to advocate for oneself and how to interpret communication to respond appropriately in different situations. We will talk about the barriers to our success and how to manage them effectively. Perhaps most importantly, this year will begin and end with a unit on mindfulness based stress reduction. Discussion will include topics such as stress, self esteem, social anxiety, and peer pressure, and how we can manage these challenges. We will practice mindfulness in a variety of ways including meditation, breath-work, yoga, EFT tapping, and creative expression. Throughout our other units we will return to these mindfulness tools to help us navigate tricky situations. By the end of the year, my hope is that every student will know that they possess the tools they need to succeed, and be able to implement them with confidence to balance their mental health and well being with the demands of school, work, and life.
