Middle School Science

Class Description

In this course designed for middle school students, we will embark on a journey to explore fundamental concepts in physics while focusing on developing a strong foundation in scientific methods and critical thinking skills.

Throughout the year, students will engage in hands-on experiments, interactive demonstrations, and collaborative projects that introduce them to the principles of scientific inquiry. By emphasizing the scientific method, students will learn how to ask questions, make hypotheses, design experiments, collect and analyze data, and draw conclusions based on evidence.

The course will cover basic concepts in mechanics, such as motion, forces, and energy, allowing students to understand the fundamental principles governing the physical world around them. Through engaging activities and demonstrations, students will explore concepts like Newton's laws of motion, simple machines, and the principles of energy transfer. Students will also delve into the properties of matter and its interactions through lessons on heat, sound, and light, fostering a deeper understanding of the physical phenomena they encounter daily.

By the end of the year, students will have gained a solid understanding of introductory physics concepts and a strong grasp of the scientific methods that underpin scientific inquiry. They will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to continue exploring the wonders of physics and other scientific disciplines in their educational journey.

Each week students will be responsible for completing the week’s reading and applicable assignments (vocabulary, short answers, and note-taking) and may be assigned a video that correlates to the weeks’ topic. 

At the end of the year each student will receive a summary of the class and a personalized note on their learning progression.
